Malaysia and its main cities Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Sabah, and Sarawak are popular travel destinations if you’re traveling/backpacking Asia or Southeast Asia. Below you’ll find the cheap budget airlines that fly to Malaysia in 2024.
I’ve included the popular cities/countries you may be traveling from around Asia. If you’re traveling from somewhere further such as Europe or the Americas, the airlines traveling wouldn’t be considered ‘budget’ anymore, so it won’t be included in the summary below.
Main Airports of Malaysia
Here are the airports of the bigger cities that are frequented by travelers in Malaysia.
- Kuala Lumpur: Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) or Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2)
- Penang: Penang International Airport
- Sabah: Kota Kinabalu International Airport
- Sarawak: Kuching International Airport
Best Budget Airline to Fly to Malaysia
In my opinion, Air Asia is the best budget airline to fly to Malaysia. Biggest reason being Air Asia is a Malaysian airline company that has operated in the region for many years. It also has a wide network of airline service available in most Southeast Asian and East Asian cities. Apart from the occasional customer dispute (Let’s be honest, which budget airline doesn’t have this?), the service has always been rather decent in my experience.
