First impressions

Walking through the huge glass door panels, we were welcomed by a cozy home dining setting: Warm yellow lights shining on the wooden tables, chairs, and cutleries. Table seats were ample but as we came in with the weekday lunch office crowd, we were ushered to the bar seats instead.

Rinjin Shokudo Bukit Jalil

Rinjin Shokudo’s menu offers “set meal” options with the concept of Ichiju Sansai (One soup, three dishes). Their dishes all come with a rice, main dish, 2 side dishes, and a warming miso soup. We’ll cover the full menu at the end of the review.

What we ordered

  • Saba Shioyaki Set (Grilled mackerel with salt) – RM28.90
  • Tori Batayaki (Grilled chicken with butter and garlic) – RM28.90

Our review

The grilled mackerel was extremely fresh and juicy. The natural fat from the fish coated the rice perfectly when eaten together. Most importantly, it was not fishy and left no aftertaste after the meal.

The chicken was fragrant and grilled to a decent tenderness. Despite being grilled in butter and garlic, the flavours were not heavy not overpowering. We’d highly recommend the dishes that we tried.

The side dishes were really generous in portion too! We paid an additional RM2 for the chawanmushi (Steamed egg) and it was filled with prawns. The potato salad also came with two big scoops topped with sliced duck breast.

Although the dishes seemed simple, it definitely filled us up at the end of the meal with a warm miso soup to wash everything down. A great Japanese eatery for simple dishes that we’d visit regularly.
