The Touch ‘n Go card is Malaysia’s transport card. You can use it to pay for parking, highway tolls, and public transport rides including train and bus rides.

There are two types of Touch ‘n Go cards. The regular Touch ‘n Go card and enhanced Touch ‘n Go card (Pastel blue and pink). The enhanced card is a later version that allows for reloads via the Touch ‘n Go card.

Due to popular demand, the enhanced card may not always be available. However, from my experience, I get around just fine using the regular card.

Where to buy a Touch ‘n Go card?

There are several ways to buy a Touch ‘n Go card. You can purchase it from authorized merchants, official Touch ‘n Go store, Rapid KL customer service offices, and the Touch ‘n Go eWallet app.

1. Authorized merchants: This is the easiest way to get the Touch ‘n Go card as they’re everywhere. The merchants include convenience stores (eg. 7-Eleven), Pharmacies (eg. Watsons), Petrol stations (eg. Shell). Click here for the full merchant list.

2. Official Touch ‘n Go store: The one and only official store is located in KL Sental, Kuala Lumpur’s main transportation hub.

3. Rapid KL customer service offices: These offices are in every train station including LRT, MRT, or Monorail station.

4. Touch ‘n Go eWallet app: Unless you’re staying for a long period of time I wouldn’t recommend buying through the app as you must register for the eWallet app with a Malaysian or Singaporean phone number. You can also only get the enhanced card here and it will take time to deliver to a local address.

What is the price of a Touch ‘n Go card?

The Touch ‘n Go card is priced at RM10 (Around 2 USD) if bought at authorized merchants, the official Touch ‘n Go store, or on the app. You will have to pay a separate amount to get travel credit in the card.

If you purchase the card at a Rapid KL customer service office it will cost RM15 (Around 3 USD), although you will get RM9.80 in the card as travel credit automatically.

What can I use a Touch ‘n Go card for?

1. Pay for parking: Gated parking sites or mall parking widely accept cashless payments, especially in Kuala Lumpur (Many no longer accept cash). You can pay via a VISA/Mastercard debit card, but some accept only Touch ‘n Go card exclusively. You can tap the card upon entrance and exit. The amount is then automatically deducted. Do note that most parking sites require a minimum balance to enter (At least RM20 is recommended).

2. Pay for highway toll: When approaching a toll, look for the lane with a Touch ‘n Go logo. You may tap your card on the terminal to pass through.

3. Pay for public transport: You can pay for train rides including the LRT, MRT, Monorail, and KLIA Ekspres/Transit using the Touch ‘n Go card. The Touch ‘n Go card is also the only way you can pay for Rapid KL bus rides.

You can reload your Touch ‘n Go card at authorized merchants, Rapid KL customer service offices, highway toll booths, or at a Touch ‘n Go reload kiosk for a reload fee of RM0.50. It’s best to carry some cash for the reload.

Here’s how you can spot a Touch ‘n Go reload kiosk. They’re usually situated in popular malls:
