First impressions

Slurrp at PJ, SS2

We went around Sunday 1pm, and the place was packed, which is always a good sign for good food. Unfortunately, the staff were quite short-handed so we had to walk inside the shop to get their attention in order to get seated. But once we were sat we were quickly attended to with the QR code to order. The seating area was bright and ventilated for a hot, sunny weekend.

What we ordered

  • Iced Cham with no sugar (RM5)
  • Red Kolo Kuey Teow (RM11.50)
  • Original Kolo Mee (RM11.50)
  • Kiaw aka Kuching Soup Dumplings (RM4.50 for 4 pieces)

Our review

1. Red Kolo Kuey Teow

These Kuey Teow were mixed with Char Siew oil which gives it the signature red color. The noodles were really soft and had a nice chew, and was coated with the Char Siew oil. It had a good amount of pork mince, meatballs, Char Siew, and fishcakes which went well with the noodles. However, we thought the Char Siew oil could have been more fragant. Overall, it was balanced but nothing to wow about.

2. Original Kolo Mee

Original Kolo Mee, Slurrp

This was the star of the show for us. With similar ingredients to the Red Kolo Kuey Teow, the noodles here were extremely springy and fresh to the bite. It was not over-drenched in pork oil which is the case for many places, leaving room for the noodles to shine with the other ingredients. We finished this dish without feeling “jelak”. Indeed a bowl of Kolo Mee that leaves you wanting for more!

3. Kiaw – Soup dumplings

Soup Dumplings, Slurrp

We’ve never had a Kiaw before so we didn’t quite know what to expect. The dumpling skin was nice and thin, but we thought the filling could be more generous. The filling had a regular taste of pork and spices, nothing special to shout about. We will probably skip this dish when we return in the future.

4. Will we be back?

Definitely! The Original Kolo Mee impressed us and it’s a nice, quick, affordable fix for Sarawakian food/noodle cravings. They had plenty of other items on the menu that we have not tried including Sarawak Laksa, Kampua Mee, Crispy Tomato Mee, and more.

Parking

Parking around the area is difficult (SS2, right?). If you’re not lucky enough to find a proper yellow box as a parking spot, you may have to get creative on roadside and the alleys. Whichever you land on, the area is relatively safe.
