Guide: Bukit Jalil Recreational Park (Taman Rekreasi) Kuala Lumpur

Bukit Jalil Recreational Park (Taman Rekreasi Bukit Jalil)

As a resident of southern KL, Bukit Jalil Recreational Park is my favourite park to visit. It is spaciously filled with green patches of nature, has safe roads and treks, convenient to park, and has well-maintained facilities. It’s perfect for a casual walk, jogging/running, mini-hiking, picnic, or a day out in nature with family.

If you’re planning to visit, you’ve made the right choice. Here’s a complete guide to the park!

Bukit Jalil Recreational Park Opening Hours

The park is open 6am to 8pm daily. The gate to enter will be blocked past 8pm, but there are instances I’ve stayed beyond 8pm and the exit gate will remain open for late stayers.

Bukit Jalil Recreational Park Parking, Entrances and Map

Parking is completely free. The park is relatively big, so if you have a specific area you want to be in, choosing the right parking and entrance will be important. Here are the main parking and entrances. From left side of photo to the right:

  • Left entrance or known as North Entrance (Entrance 3 in photo): Closest to playground and mini lake [Waze]
  • Middle entrance (Entrance 1/”You Are Here” in photo): Closest to main bridge and stairs hike [Waze]
  • Right entrance (Entrance 2 in photo): Closest to International Gardens and greens space for picnic [Waze]

Attractions and Facilities

Paths and trails

The park has well-paved walking paths and trails, so if you’re looking to walk, jog, or run, it is very safe to do so. It is also surrounded by trees and nature, so it is a refreshing place to exercise away from the roads.

Mini lake

The mini lake is closest to Entrance 3. The loop is around 800m. There is also a mini hike up the hill with stairs and handrail.

Playground

There are 3 medium and large-sized playgrounds available and they are all in one area. There are also benches, surau and toilet (Toilet is paid entry, bring some cash!) opposite the playgrounds. A black cat also lives there, which I believe belongs to the staff in the park.

Hiking trails

If you’re looking to hike, there are some mini hills. Some of them can be accessible by stairs and handrails, while some you will need to walk on the path. They are not too challenging, so it’s suitable for all ages.

Main lake and bridges

This is where the main crowd will usually be as it’s a nice walk close to nature. This is also where most animals are. If you’re planning to feed the birds or fish in the lake, please keep your trash away in the rubbish bins and don’t pollute the water and park!

This is also where the monkeys tend to gather. They’re mostly harmless unless you tempt them with food, so please be careful and not to agitate them. The park has also discouraged feeding of monkeys as it destroys the park’s ecosystem. I hope you’ll be able to respect the habitat and protect the animals when you’re here.

Picnic spots

The park is filled with green spaces, benches, tables, and huts. If you’re thinking of having a picnic, come early or in the evening when it’s less hot!

International Gardens

As you spend your time in the right side of the park, you’ll see many architecture from different countries, from China, Netherlands, to Chile. The buildings are relatively old, but it’s a nice touch to the park, and great for family photos.

Walk to Pavilion Bukit Jalil

As you walk from the main lake to International Gardens, you may come across a white bridge. Take the bridge to get to the main roads that lead to Pavilion Bukit Jalil with a short 5 minute walk.

I hope you learned a bit more about Bukit Jalil Recreational Park. Final reminder: Please protect the habitat in the park and keep it clean. Happy exploring!

  1. Is there any introduction of the plants and flowers inside the park? They are so beautiful and amazing 😍

Thank you for your kind assistance 🙏

    1. Hi Roland, thanks for your kind comment! Unfortunately there’s no introduction of the plants and flowers inside the park. But it is still worth a visit to observe them in person 🙂

        1. Hi Grace, adults are allowed but the playground’s facilities are built for the size of kids. However, there are adult sized outdoor facilities for exercise all over the park too, such as pull-up bars, balance beams, push up bars, and many more. So don’t worry, it’s suitable for adults to get some exercise in too with the available facilities. Hope I helped!
